Pinguicula debbertiana is a relatively newly described species from Mexico, in state of San Luis Potosi, Huizache crossing. A member of section Crassifolia, this plant is closely related to species like esseriana, juamavensis, and ehlersiae. Much like those species, the plant has succulent looking, overlapping leaves with obvious margins. However, this species colors up to a much more deeper purple color than esseriana and juamavensis. While not much is known about the habitat of this species, it's probable that they are similar to other Crassifolia members, growing on wet rocks or pockets of moss.
Care for this plant does not differ from your typical Mexican Pinguicula, appreciating well draining soils, mild temperatures, and strong light. The more light, the deeper the purple color becomes. This variety of debbertiana has noticeably thinner and more numerous leaves, as well as being a vibrant purple-pink color. The margins are more upturned at their ends, creating a beautiful geometric pattern. I believe this form originates from the EU nursery Carnivoria.eu, and was introduced to the states years ago. Much smaller than my typical debbertiana, this plant also grows much slower.
*Lost this plant in Spring 2021, please let me know where to get another one because this variety is HOT. If normal debb is is a Popeye's Chicken Sandwich (already good btw), this plant is a SPICY Popeye's Chicken Sandwich.
Growing Conditions: Grow Rack, Windowsill
Light: Very bright LED, 14" under a Marshydro 300w
Soil: Peat, perlite, vermiculite, well draining mix with higher percentage of perlite and vermiculite.
Temperatures: Room temperatures around 74F to 84F (winter to summer months)
Humidity: No added humidity, ambient household humidity
Watering: Watered using the tray method, flooded weekly but not allowed to stand in water. Watering is reduced in winter
Care Level: Easy
