This species is a member of section Crassifolia, which are smaller species with tightly packed, upturned leaves. Species such as esseriana, debbertiana, jaumavensis, and ehlersiae all belong to this group, and may appear so similar many think they're the same species. Pinguicula esseriana is a small, succulent like ping found in San Luis Potosi near El Huizache. I received this clone of esseriana from another grower. I looked it up and it seems it originates from European nurseries. No wonder I don’t usually see it for sale here. The name “black” is misleading, as I grow mine under decently high light and it turns a dark purple. However, I’ve seen pictures of plants with a color close to black, as a very very dark purple. I’ll try moving it closer under my lights. That aside, it seems to be not any different from typical esseriana care wise. The leaves are more rounded and have a less pronounced margin to them
